318iC M Design Edition
BMW manufactured three so-called motorsport versions of the 318iC in limited numbers, all of which were equipped with equipment from Motorsport GmbH. None of the three series had the M Technic II aerodynamic package, but the last two series were well equipped. The first M-Design series started in June 1991 with neon blue paintwork and interior fittings (the so-called smurf cabins) or neon green paintwork and interior fittings. In January 1992 the equipment was expanded with e.g. central locking, EC convertible top and two new motorsport colors. The third and final M Design series, which went into production in November 1992, will be equipped with a new, two-tone leather option in motorsport colors to match the paint.

The first M-Design series starts production in 06/91, according to ETK in two color combinations of neon blue paint and interior and neon green paint and interior. It can be easily recognized by the neon blue (neon green) plastic edges of the headrests and the middle parts of the chairs, which were made of fabric M (from M3 Cesotto and M3C), for example. Rumor has it that up to 200 M Design Editions of each color were produced. The equipment includes M Technic sports steering wheel with gear knob and damask in leather, shadowline and 7 x 15 inch cross-rim wheels. The series is available at least as year of construction 91. We are still looking for the option code for this M version.

The 318iC M Design Edition had a special motorsport interior with center panels on the seats, door panels and side panels in neon blue 0463 (neon green 0464) in the three-tone M Tex fabric from Motorsport. The sides of the seats as well as the edges of the headrests had screaming neon blue (neon green) plastic edges that matched the paintwork of the car. The picture shows a smurf cabin with neon blue paint and interior fittings.
The other color of the M Design Edition was Neogrun metallic 262 and the interior in Neogrun Motorsport M tex

318iC M Design Edition 11/92 –
The final M Design Edition series starts production 11/92 and is one of the best-equipped e30 convertibles ever produced (perhaps due to BMW reducing inventory of e30 equipment during the final spurt of e30 production). The M Design Edition was available in three paint finishes: Muggle red 274, Dayton violet metallic 283 and Mauritius blue metallic 287 with a new special two-tone motor sport leather interior (called M Design in the ETK special series), in which the middle parts of the seat covers are covered with soft nappa leather in a matching color Motorsport colors were provided and on the side panels with black leather.

325iC M technology
BMW produced some motorsport versions of the 325iC in limited series with equipment features from BMW Motorsport GmbH. For the 1989 model year, a small series of motorsport convertibles named 1989 M Technic equipment with option code 796 with the same full leather interior and EH soft top as the M3C was produced. From May 1990, all motorsport series Motorsport received updated M Technic II aerodynamic packages consisting of special bumpers, front spoiler, sill extensions, side panels, lower rear spoiler (but without sedan model spoiler on the tailgate) and door sills with the BMW M-Technik logo. Each version was produced in limited editions of just a few hundred. There are an estimated 10 M Technic 335 and 798 cabs in Sweden today. See a list of well-known M Technic cabs in Sweden.
Information about the M Technic Convertibles is scarce and often consists of rumors on the Internet. Some information can also be found in the engine literature. The sources we use to recreate facts about these cars are primarily ASAP, ETK, TIS, engine literature, pictures and ultimately rumors on the internet. With the help of ASAP we have so far been able to identify six different M Technic versions with corresponding option codes up to 325iC. With the help of ETK, we have now received some advance information about the production periods for each series.

The differences between the different M Technic versions lie in the upholstery, colors and interior fittings. With a few exceptions, the packages always contained paintwork, upholstery and / or other interior fittings that were found on the motorsport-owned M3 and M3C cars.
BMW M Technic door sills are available for all M Technic Cabrio versions from 05/90. Here on a version 798.
All M-Technik vehicles therefore had M-Technik II. Here. a short presentation in chronological order of each M Technic version.
325iC 1989 M Technik equipment – version 796
A rare motorsport version of the 325iC is introduced for the 1989 model year, called the 1989 M Technic Equipment with option code 796 in ASAP. A total of only 40 vehicles were produced. The series is only available as model year 1989 and is based on the non-facelifted body and was therefore only produced for 1 year, which makes these models really very rare. Apart from the M Technic sports suspension, 7 x 15 cross-spoke rims in silver and the paintwork of the series in the special colors Nogaro Silver Metallic 243 or Macao Blue Metallic 250, the exterior of the vehicle did not differ from a standard 325iC. The series lacked the M Technic I package, instead Shadowline with metal bumpers was painted in the special exterior colors of the cars. The interior, on the other hand, was full leather trim 0318/0319 with leather on the center console, as well as door and side panels and around the door handles. The series was equipped with the rare electro-hydraulic EH convertible top from M3C.
1989 M Technic equipment version 796, here in Macao blue metallic, was produced as a 1989 model in a very limited edition as the forerunner of the 798 version. The series did not have an M Technic I package, but instead painted Shadowline with metal bumpers in motorsport paintwork. An M-Technic chassis was also included. The car in the picture was produced in 06/89.
1989 M Technic equipment version 796 had Walknappa full leather equipment from M3C here in silver 0319 with leather-covered door sides, door handles and center console and three-colored M stickers on the chair backs from early M3C versions.
The 1989 M Technic equipment version 796 had the rare electro-hydraulic EH convertible top with visible hydraulic cylinders (one on each side) for the rear frame, which stood on the M3C before the EM convertible of 03/90.

325iC M technical equipment – version 798
The second motorsport series 05/90 – 09/90 is characterized by a unique combination of the non-facelifted body with narrow taillights and the facelifted M Technic II aerodynamic package from 250 were manufactured in 1990 from the first series. The interior: delayed switching off of the interior lighting, M-Technic sports steering wheel II, gear knob and leather damask, shadowline, tinted windows and EM convertible top were part of the standard equipment in the M3C. The paintwork Macao blue metallic 250 and Sebring gray metallic 229 were also motorsport paintwork. The full leather interior Nappa-Tex (called in ETK Climate) including the clad inside of the trunk lid was available for the M3C from 03/90. Possibly electrically heated flushing nozzles, rearview mirrors and door locks should also have been standard (as with the M3C), as we have seen so far with every 798. A large on-board computer, a BMW convertible sound system and a headrest in the rear, on the other hand, were not standard, but rather standard additional features in these cars. According to sources on the Internet, the price in 1990 was just over DM 14,000, plus DM 56,000 for a 325iC in the basic version, i.e. a total price of around DM 70,000.
325i Cabrio M Technic equipment 09/90, Macao blue metallic 250. The older, narrow taillights in combination with the new M Technic II package were unique in the second motorsport series of the years 05/90 – 09/90.

* The updated M Technic aerodynamic package will be introduced in 05/90 in a version that does not fit in facelift vehicles in the period 05/90 – 09/90 (see M Technic rear apron 51 12 2 232 374 in ETK). 325iC can be found in the so-called High Line Version 05 / 90-09 / 90 on the ECE market with full leather interior trim which was also available in M3C from 03/90. The 325iC High Line series 05/90 – 09/90 had its own unique wiring harness 61 11 2 233 879.
** The explanation why the M Technic sports suspension is not included in Code 798 is the fact that, according to ETK, the M Technic sports suspension in all ECE vehicles consists of a combination of components (shock absorbers, stabilizers and springs) that are normally also used in e30 cars without M Technic sports suspension occur.
325iC M Technic sport package version 335
M Technic sports package version 335 was delivered on order on the 325iC from 10/90. It had the same equipment as the above M Technic equipment version 798, but geared more towards sport than comfort and there was no comfort-oriented EM convertible top and full leather interior. In contrast, the EC convertible top on the 335 version seems to be a standard special equipment. Electrically heated flushing nozzles, rear-view mirrors and door locks could also have been standard equipment (as with the M3C). 7 x 15 light alloy wheels were included and you could choose between cross-spoke or six-spoke rims (picture below). There were five paint finishes to choose from, but the colors were different from those of the 798 version, and 500 335 version 325iC vehicles were produced.
